AES Returns to London!

Profusion to Display at Stand 1608
with Emphasis on Amplifier Design

Audio power amplifiers will take center stage at Profusion's stand during the upcoming 128th AES Convention to be held right here in London. We'll introduce you to a range of complete 100W Class D amplifiers, available or without integrated power supply.

We'll also be showcasing new and exciting high-power bipolar transistors rated at 230V with exceptional linearity and frequency characteristics, as well as some new, competitively-priced Lateral MOSFETs with both excellent sonic characteristics and simplified design.

That's not all. We will be highlighting a wide range of other components useful in amplifiers and other applications, including:

along with an array of smoothing capacitors, bridge rectifiers, potentiometers, input and driver transistors, digitally controlled analogue volume control chips, and even digital wireless modules.

Do stop by our stand and take a look at the latest in specialty audio components. After all, it's not every year we get an AES Convention just down the road...

THAT1570/5171

Breakthrough Programmable Mic Pre Debuts!

THAT Corp introduce 2-chip set solution for digital control of analogue preamp gain

This time the rumor mill got it right. THAT Corporation have introduced a new 2-chip digitally-controlled low-noise amplifier designed specifically for pro and MI mic pre applications. The chip set is a no-compromise solution comprising the THAT1570 Low Noise Audio Preamplifier and the THAT5171 Digital Preamp Controller.

The THAT1570/5171combination spec out at 1nV/rtHz noise at 60dB gain, with a bandwidth of 4.2MHz and THD+N of 0.0008% (40dB gain), and a 53V/us slew rate. Digital control is via an addressable serial-peripheral interface (SPI) and gain is programmable at 5.6dB, and from 13.6 to 68.6dB in 1dB steps.

THAT's engineers pulled out all the stops to ensure the 1570/5171 will be suitable for even the most demanding applications, including a differential servo which reduces output offsets to less than 1mV, and patent-pending techniques to minimize zipper noise. The differential audio signal output, 4 general purpose digital outputs, and versatile SPI bus combine to simplify design without limiting flexibility and creativity.

Now there's a digitally controlled mic pre you can trust to deliver the goods, don't wait to get your hands on this outstanding chip set. Samples and demo boards are available now by contacting any Profusion sales office.

Reverbs Sound Off

Effects Solutions Ease Design Without Compromising Quality

Musicians are picky about reverbs. That's why we offer reverb and effects solutions that are both sonically superior and cost-effective. Whether you're looking for a drop-in module or the flexibility of an IC, whether you want masterfully crafted presets or plan to roll your own sound effects, Profusion is going to have the solution.

Take our Resolute Audio modules, for example. Designed by David Simpao, one of the most knowledgable effects engineers on the planet, these small boards provide exquisitely tailored patches for most popular applications. Want additional flexibility? You'll get that from the advanced chips offered by Wavefront and SPIN. Or take a look at our entire reverb line-up. You're sure to find the right device for your next design.

Tripath TA2020 Praised

One of "25 Microchips That Shook The World"

In the May 2009 on-line issue of IEEE Spectrum, Tripath's TA2020 class-T amplifier is credited as one of the 25 "most innovative, intriguing, and inspiring integrated circuits" ever. We agree.

The TA2020 is a 20W per channel, two-channel, bridged amplifier incorporating Tripath's Digital Power Processing technology. The resulting Class-T devices deliver the audio fidelity of Class-AB with the power efficiency of Class-D amplifiers, while its sound has been described, to quote the Spectrum article, "as warm and vibrant as tube amps." To celebrate the success of the TA2020 we are offering for a limited period a TA2020 amplifier module from 41Hz Audio for only €55...
